Vijay’s Theri BEATS Rajinikanth’s Kabali over distribution price
Ilayathalapathy Vijay's upcoming film Theri has managed to beat superstar Rajinikanth's Kabali in the battle of pre-release business between these two flicks in the state of Kerala. While the theatrical rights of the Pa Ranjith directorial Kabali has been bought for an impressive 6 Crore rupees by a leading distributor in Kerala, Vijay's Theri has fetched 6.5 Crore rupees in the God's own country.

Kerala distributors had bagged the film for Rs 7 crores. which is higher than the price for which Rajinikanth’s upcoming film Kabali had been sold, which is Rs 6 crores! It was but natural, since Vijay has a lot of fans in Kerala. Rajinikanth’s box office pull has been under scrutiny since the disastrous performances of Lingaa and Kochadaiiyaan. Kabali certainly looks to be different, as the film is directed by Pa Ranjith, who previously made critically acclaimed Madras and Attakathi. Even the released posters of the film and Rajnikanth’s look in the film has been appreciated! However, it was not enough for the distributors to give it a higher price than Vijay’s action thriller.
Both the films have a tentative release date on 14 April, however this might be subject to change.
